Curly Mango OM - Thickness Sanding the Top |

| I recently finished building a thickness sander to be able to make my own tops, sides, and backs out of whatever strikes me, and got my first chance to use it on the top of the Mango guitar. The picture is low-light, but the results were quite good. The top is flat, and sanded to about 0.110-0.115" thick. There is some bear-claw in the spruce which will make it quite interesting, but it is also a much more pink/amber than I am used to, which may give the guitar a more vintage look without adding what I call "dirty lacquer", or a lacquer with "vintage toner" in it. I am just not a fan of that look, though many really like it. The top seems to have a nice ring tone to it, does not seem nearly as flexible as my jumbo was, so I am hoping to get a good clear tone out of it. (I actually am showing this picture out of order, in this photo, the left and right side have already been glued and sanded, and the cutaway shape has been traced onto the top). |
