So I have built an acoustic guitar. I have even fixed a crack on the acoustic guitar, and love playing it whenever I get the chance. But you know what? I have never had an electric guitar! I don’t even know how to use one except as a noisy acoustic, but I have decided to build one anyway.
LMI offers a great kit with top-notch materials and components, so I ordered one, and got it within a few days. The only thing that didn’t come were the pickups, and they should be here any day.
When I unpacked the kit, I was both pleased and dismayed by what I saw. The wood was gorgeous, and all the components were well packed and labeled. What dismayed me was how RAW it all was. I guess that's what you get from starting with an acoustic kit from Martin. They did a lot of the hard work for you, like carving the neck, bending the sides, book matching and joining the top, and much more. In this kit, NOTHING was done, and to be honest, I was a little nervous.
The body is solid mahogany, as is the neck. The top is 1” AAAA Flamed maple, BEAUTIFUL wood, and the fingerboard and head plate or solid ebony. All the other components are excellent as far as I can tell.
