Guitar Builders and Information

The following is a list of links and resources I use quite a bit.  They are either sites by people I have become acquinted with online, forums for guitarists and guitar builders, or sites I have found over the years to be extroardinarily helpful at one time or another.  If you know of one that should be on the list, email me and I will include it in the list.

Kitguitarbuilder.com- This is probably where I have spent 90% of my time online!  Bill Cory has put together an excellent resource for all hobby builders and some pros alike. The site is very well organized, has tons of great information, and has a very friendly, unpretentious, and well run Kit Guitar Builders Forumto exchange some great information.

LinkedIN Guitar Builders Discussions- a place on that fantastic business network for builders and enthusiasts to discuss whatever comes to mind.

KMG- Kenneth Michael Guitars, one of the pros that visit Bill Cory’s forum, has some great tutorials, is a great source for tools, and is an all around huge help.

Blues Creek Guitars- John Hall is another huge resource for Kits, parts, repairs, and some good advice. He can also be found visiting Bill’s forum.

C. F. Martin- Aside from the beautiful guitars, the 1833 Shop is where I purchased my first kit. They were speedy, responsive to questions and minor changes in the kit, and wouldn’t think twice before buying a kit from them again.

Specimen Products- Ian Snelling repaired a guitar for me, and did a fantastic job. I also found him a great source of information on building and repairing, was willing to look at the neck I drastically screwed up, and I hope to take one of the classes he is offering in his new Chicago School of Guitar Making.

Kathy Matsushita - Kathy is an amateur luthier on the west coast with an outstanding website full of information, tips and tricks, and some gorgeous instruments. She was very willing to answer some questions when I was getting started.

Jim Kumorek - Jim put a site together cataloguing his progress on building a Kit guitar from Martin. It is very informative, and very well laid out.

William Cumpiano- The author of the book
Guitar Making also has an excellent website.

Acoustic Guitar Central
-  Some of the best luthiers in the industry spend time answering questions and giving advice on their craft, though they can be tough on beginners.  Make sure you use the "Search" feature before asking a question.....chances are, you wouldn't be the first to ask it. They have Players sections, Gear sections, Beginners, and much more, covering anything you need to know from building, to playing, to teaching.

Frets.com - A terrific site put together by Frank Ford, chock full of tips, tricks, how-toos, and some great looking instruments!

13th Fret- Another good forum, with a lot of great references to it.

Luthier Forum- More good information

Luthiers Forum- Even more good information

Luthier Supply - Andy Depaule is a supplier of inlay items and supplies.  The work they do is fantastic, and for a good price as well.
Luthiers Mercantile International- Excellent products and services, great tools and services as well

Stewart MacDonald- Also and excellent source of supplies, tools, and services
