The Lion & The Lamb is a small-bodied OM-sized guitar built for an on-line acquaintance. This was someone I met at Bill Cory's fantastic Kit Guitar Forum who had been interested in starting a build himself, but then got engaged and new he would not have the time to devote to it (and appropriately so, I should add....). He contacted me and asked if I would be interested in a "sponsored" build, whereas he would buy the materials and I would build it for a fee. He was interested in seeing what kind of quality a guitar would be if built by a non-professional builder, and would give him an idea of how well he might be able to do himself. We worked out the details of the build, and I had a new project!
The guitar, as mentioned above, is an OM-style guitar, not much larger at all than a classical guitar. The head plate, back and sides are rosewood, with koa binding and custom end graft. The top is Adirondack Spruce. The fingerboard and the bridge are ebony, and the nut and saddle are bone. The headstock has a custom inlay drawn by a friend of Mark (the customer), and cut and inset in pearl. The bridge pins are boxwood, and there is also a custom sound port on the side of the guitar.
The build was a lot of fun, despite some frustrating climate-related setbacks, and I got to do a little experimentation with certain parts you see as you go through the build. Click on any of the items listed to the right for details on that step, or follow them through the build.
